Eggs with non-traditional colours, have grown in popularity among breeders and enthusiasts. The Blue distinctive hues are linked to an autosomal dominant genetic trait known as oocyan.
For breeders seeking to produce varied egg colours, the blue egg test offers a reliable method for selective pairing. By identifying birds that carry one of two copies of the oocyan gene, breeding programmes can be streamlined, ensuring predictable results while optimising time and resources.
The test reports on the number of oocyan copies a bird carries, either zero, one or two copies.
Ordering steps:
1) Purchase collection kits online by creating an account with us.
2) Fill the paper form that comes along with the kits. Ordering of the testing itself is not available online.
3) Post samples to us along with the paper form.

Samples required for testing
The test can be done from blood or feather samples. However, blood is preferred as they contain higher amounts of DNA. Only a small amount of blood is needed, it simply involves pricking the bird at the top of claw. You can check the instructions on how to collect and label your samples here.
Collection kits can be purchase using our online platform or email us to info@animetics.com.au with your name, address, and phone number and the number of collection kits required. The kits are sold in packs of ten and do not expiry.
